MIL-DTL-52849E
3.9.1 Material deterioration and control. The kit and its components shall be fabricated
from compatible materials, inherently corrosion and deterioration resistant, or treated to provide
protection against the various forms of corrosion and deterioration to which they are susceptible.
3.9.2 Dissimilar metals. Dissimilar materials shall be isolated from one another to
prevent or minimize galvanic corrosion.
3.9.3 Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials. Recycled,
recovered, or environmentally preferable materials should be used to the maximum extent
possible provided that the material meets or exceeds the operational and maintenance
requirements, and promotes economically advantageous life cycle costs. Used, rebuilt, or
remanufactured components, pieces and parts shall not be incorporated into the kits.
3.10 Treatment and painting. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), the cabinet shall be
cleaned, treated, and painted in accordance with the manufacturer's standard commercial
practice. The exterior of the kit shall be finished with a Chemical Agent Resistant Coating
(CARC) according to MIL-DTL-53039 or MIL-DTL-64159. The color shall be Army green
#383, color #34094 of FED-STD-595.
4. VERIFICATION
4.1 Classification of inspections. The inspection requirements specified herein are
classified as follows:
a. First article inspection (see 4.2).
b. Conformance inspection (see 4.3).
4.2 First article inspection. The first article inspection shall be performed on one
complete test kit. The inspection shall include the examinations of 4.4 and the testing of 4.5.
4.3 Conformance inspection. The conformance inspection shall include examinations of
4.4.
4.4 Examination. Each test kit shall be examined physically for compliance with the
requirements specified in Table I. This element of inspection shall encompass all examinations
of performance, safety, human engineering, and dimensional requirements. Noncompliance with
any specified requirement, or the presence of any defect(s) preventing performance of specified
tests, shall constitute cause for rejection.
4.5 Tests.
4.5.1 Performance. Performance testing shall be conducted at room temperature (68 ± 2
°F or 20 ± 1 °C) unless otherwise specified.
