COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
URINOMETER, SQUIBB AND MICRO
This commercial item description shall be used in preference to Federal Specification GG-U-681b
This commercial item description covers a squibb and micro urinometer for use in determining the specific gravity of urine.
Salient characteristics:
The urinometer shall consist of a graduated glass hydrometer and an ungraduated glass cylinder.
The cylinder shall have a depth approximating the length of the hydrometer and a diameter of at least 1/3 greater with a circular or hexagonal base of sufficient diameter to prevent tipping over. The hydrometer shall consist of a cylindrical tube or stem, a ballast bulb and buoyancy bulb located immediately above the ballast bulb. The hydrometer shall float freely within the cylinder. A graduated scale shall be secured within the upper stem of the hydrometer and shall be inscribed on white paper with nonfading ink. All graduations shall be clear and sufficient distinct to be read without the aid of a magnifying glass. The squibb urinometer shall have a scale range of 1.000 to 1.060 divided into six major divisions by graduating line numbered with Arabic numerals. The micro shall have a scale range of 1.000 to 1.040 divided into five major divisions by graduating lines numbered with Arabic numerals. For both types, the major graduations shall be subdivided into halves and tenths. The scale shall be calibrated at 60o+F (15.56oC) and shall be labeled.
Workmanship. Workmanship shall be first class throughout. The urinometers shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair their serviceability.
Packaging and packing quantities. Unit. Each (EA). Each urinometer, as specified, constitutes one unit. Shipping container shall contain ten units.
Contractor certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and conforms to the producers’ own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor shall comply, and be responsible for compliance by their subcontractors/suppliers, with the requirements of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetics Act and regulations promulgated thereunder, and the requirements of all otter applicable Federal and State statutes and regulations.
Recovered materials. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practical.
Preservation, packaging, packing. Unless otherwise specified, preservation, packaging, and packing shall be to a degree of protection to preclude damage to containers and/or contents thereof under normal shipping conditions, handling, etc., involving shipment from receiving activity, and shall conform to applicable carrier’s rules and regulations.
