COMPARATOR SET, COLOR
Chlorine-Bromine, and pH Determination
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a color comparator system using diethyl-p-phenylenediamine (DPD) No. 1 for free chlorine and bromine detection, and phenol red for pH determination.
Salient characteristics.
The color comparator set shall consist of two comparators, one comparator for free chlorine and bromine detection, and one comparator for pH determination the set shall also include color comparator standards, DPD No.1 tablets, phenol red tablets, test tubes, caplugs, and instructions for use. The entire set shall be furnished in a polypropylene case that does not exceed 8-1/2 inches long by 4-1/2 inches wide by 5-1/2 inches deep.
The color comparator standards shall be in the form of either liquid standards sealed in glass ampoules, or standardized glass or plastic disks. The free chlorine/bromine comparator shall include color standards for reading the following color values:
Chlorine: 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 5.0 and 10.0 ppm of free available chlorine.
Bromine: 0.2, 0.4, 0.9, 2.2, 4.4, 6.6, 11.0 and 22.2 ppm of bromine.
The pH comparator shall include color standards for reading the following values of pH: 6.8, 7.0, 7.2, 7.4, 7.6, 7.8, 8.0 and reading 8.2.
