COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
WATER QUALITY ANALYSIS SET (MBT)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This Commercial Item Description covers a quality analysis test kit for determining the Mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) concentration of a water sample by using a hand-held titration methodology.
Salient Characteristics:
Shall be a water quality analysis test kit monitoring the Mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) concentration of water supplies in the range of 50 to 500 PPM (mg/L).
Shall determine the MBT concentration of a water sample by titrating with a premeasured liquid volume of oxidizing titrant agent whose color change signals the end of titration. The oxidizing agent shall be contained in an ampoule type titration cell. The titration cell shall be secured in a holding device for use in a hand-held titrimetric analysis testing procedure.
Shall include the following:
A sample cup with capacity to hold 25 milliliters (ml) of water sample. The sample cup shall include a suitable reference mark to indicate the 25 ml liquid level.
Thirty (30) vacuum sealed glass ampoules containing potassium permanganate in an acidic medium. Each ampoule shall include a pre-scored tapered tip. The side of each ampoule shall include scale unit markings that represent 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 90, 100, 125, 150, 175, 200, 250, 350 and 500 ppm levels of MBT concentration.
Thirty (30) tubing assemblies. One end of the tubing assembly shall be for inserting and providing a snug fit over the tapered tip of the ampoule. The other end of the tubing assembly shall be used for the insertion in a water sample.
