TUBE, BLOOD COLLECTING (Vacuum with Separator Gel)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers blood collecting tubes with separator gel.
Salient characteristics.
Shall be prelabeled sterile blood collecting tubes with separator gel, having the following aspiration capacities and tube sizes:
Aspiration capacities: 9.5, 13 milliliters (ml)
Tube sizes (diameter x length): 16 X 100, 16 X 125 millimeters (mm)
A commercially designated 10 ml capacity tube size may be offered as an alternate to the specification designated 9.5 ml aspiration capacity tube. Commercially designated 13.5 ml and 15 ml capacity tubes may be offered as alternates to the specification designated 13 ml aspiration capacity tube. A tube size of 16 x 127 mm may be offered as an alternate to the specification designated 16 x 125 mm size.
Shall be suitable for collecting and centrifuging whole blood. The serum separator gel shall form a barrier between the serum and blood cells after centrifuging.
Shall consist of serum separator gel in evacuated transparent glass tubes with diaphragm type self sealing rubber stoppers that form airtight seals and do not come off during centrifuging. The stoppers shall be color coded red or red/grey. The glass shall have sufficient optical clarity to visually inspect a collected blood sample or centrifuged serum separation.
Shall have each glass tube affixed with a label that includes a blank space for use by hospital personnel.
