VISCOMETER, CAPILLARY TYPE,
Cannon-Fenske Reverse Flow
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers Cannon-Fenske, reverse flow, capillary type viscometers, calibrated, for use in determining viscosities of opaque liquids.
Salient characteristics:
The viscometer shall be in accordance with the applicable portions of ASTM designation D-446.
Shall be constructed of fully annealed, low expansion borosilicate glass, free of cracks, chipping, protrusions, stones, bubbles, seeds or striae.
Each viscometer shall be marked with size-number, serial-number, and manufacturers designation.
Etch all timing marks and fill with an opaque color, or otherwise make a permanent part of the viscometer.
The viscometer shall be designed to fit through a 5l millimeter (mm) diameter hole in the lid of the constant temperature bath.
Each viscometer shall be calibrated in accordance with ASTM designation D-446, and shall be supplied with a Calibration Certificate and instructions for use. Calibration shall be by comparison with a master standard. Master standard shall be based on a viscosity of 1.00338 centistrokes for water at 68 degrees Fahrenheit (20 degrees Centigrade) and shall be calibrated in accordance with ASTM designation D-2162. Accuracy of the master standard shall be traceable to National Bureau of Stnadards requirements. Accuracy of the viscometer shall be as indicated by calibration ± 0.2 percent. Test results and calibration results may be averaged for calibration certificate, providing test results are within specification requirements.
